Debra L. Rubin
Divorce Law - Melville, NY

One of the first things I tell my clients is this: It is almost always preferable to settle your case than to go to trial. Make sure you have a proper say in the resolution of your case.

In fact, in most cases you are doing yourself, and your family, a disservice by putting your fate in the hands of a stranger. While judges are trained to handle these matters, they can never know, after several hours or even several days of trial, what is ultimately best for you and your family. There are no winners in this process.

My philosophy has always been to work towards a reasonable settlement on behalf of my clients whenever possible. I am sensitive to the emotional and economic issues involved in a divorce proceeding, and find that, ultimately, clients that actively participate in a negotiated resolution of these issues tend to be the most comfortable with the results at the end of the day. However, there are inevitably situations where aggressive litigation is necessary, and in those circumstances, I prepare my clients for both the process as well as the possible outcomes.
