With keen intuition of people, a respected authority on the law and with more than 30 years in practice, Neil E. Kozek has long been one of the top matrimonial attorneys in Southern New York. Indeed, Kozek - energetic, amiable, and with a record of effectively representing a range of clients - has earned the respect of both the judiciary and his peers for his skills in litigation, mediation and Collaborative Divorce.
Kozek founded Kozek PLLC’s predecessor firm in 2003. As a premier matrimonial boutique law firm in White Plains, Kozek has combined to create what has become one of the leading - and, with six accomplished attorneys and a world class team of paralegals, is one of the largest - firms solely dedicated to creatively resolving family conflict in Westchester County.
A native of New Jersey, Kozek says he had the benefit of stellar mentors and experience from an early age. As a high school senior, he served as a Gloucester County committeeman; he was the youngest political official in the state at that time. At Rutgers College he was active in campus government and was a leader in many other University pursuits. “Believe it or not I never wanted to explore politics.” Kozek, outgoing and curious, was simply interested in people and in interpersonal group dynamics. In fact, many thought Kozek was destined for a career in psychology or other mental-health professions. He excelled in undergraduate and law school, where, after two years of legal academics, he took a course in family law. “Finally, something I can relate to” he recalls. He saw the field as a natural calling. He clerked for the Superior Court of New Jersey, Family Division for Judge Samuel D. Natal, and later joined a prominent northern New Jersey matrimonial practice. Over a decade he practiced law with northern New Jersey’s and Manhattan’s premier divorce lawyers, learning from a generation of the best attorneys and judges who encouraged him to develop his own unique style.
Peers say Kozek is adept at understanding people’s needs and motivations, a key element to resolving divorce matters; but he adds, “each case is different - there are no ‘stereotypes’ in divorce.” Forward-looking, Kozek co-founded The New York Collaborative Law Group now known as The New York Association of Collaborative Professionals. Once 14 members, the association of which he is the current President has grown to a league of nearly 110 independent attorneys, financial and mental health professionals dedicated to Collaborative Divorce, a popular and growing option for creative out-of-court settlements for divorcing couples.
Kozek PLLC, listed in the “Bar Register of Pre-eminent Law Firms” since the Firm’s inception, is located in downtown White Plains and New York City. Kozek’s firm is well known as a center for progressive divorce - dispute resolution, Collaborative Law and litigation in all matters involving families in conflict.
