Highly experienced and well regarded by both patients and colleagues, Dr. Mark Illan Silberman has been one of New York's leading plastic surgeons for over two decades. He is the founder of one of the largest and most respected plastic surgery practices in the region: The Plastic Surgery Group P.C., of Great Neck and Rockville Center. The practice includes a team of five plastic surgeons and two state-of-the-art Quad-A certified office surgical facilities.
Dr. Silberman - engaging and serious-minded, energetic and reflective - embodies the best values in plastic surgery. Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Dr. Silberman's career path was settled "before I was born," he says, as he followed his father, an orthopedic surgeon, into medicine. "I knew I wanted to be a surgeon since I was three years old." Dr. Silberman was raised on Long Island from age seven and graduated near the top of his class at G.W. Hewlett High School. He then attended Duke University and graduated at the top of his class. Dr. Silberman was admitted to Georgetown University Medical School in Washington D.C. He then moved back to New York and received his M.D. from SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where he continued his residency training.
Downstate Medical, famous for the vast and varied demands put on young doctors, offered an intense preparation and high level of experience; "I came out ready for anything, " Dr Silberman says today. After one year in solo practice, Dr. Silberman teamed with Dr. Gregory DeVita and, still in their thirties, they launched their practice into one of the most competitive markets in plastic surgery. "We were the news kids on the block," he says. By 1988 they were joined by Dr. Martin Kessler. "We were all the same age and we built our practice together. That kind of shared commitment is rare these days, but I also I think we got a little lucky - it has worked well for us." Their thriving practice today includes two younger associates, Dr. Antonio Uria and Dr. Eric Mager.
Quick-witted, with intense brown eyes and a lithe, muscular build ("you can't be out of shape to do what we do - it's physical work"), Dr. Silberman brings a calming authority to his patients, who are seeking a wide variety of cosmetic treatments. These include body contouring procedures (such as breast augmentation, breast reduction, abdominoplasty and liposuction), facial rejuvenation surgery (facelift, eyelid lift, and rhinoplasty), as well as non-surgical treatments (laser, Botox and fillers). Dr. Silberman also has extensive experience and a personal passion for post-mastectomy breast reconstruction, as well as reconstruction after bariatric (weight loss) surgery.
Today Dr. Silberman's practice remains well connected to the New York medical establishment. "Almost all of our patients are directly referred by previous patients and other physicians," he says. Dr. Silberman remains committed to an intense beginning-to-end involvement with all of his patients. An avid traveler and skier from an early age, Dr. Silberman and his wife Gail have two children. Their son Matthew is a graduate of Duke University, and their daughter Allison currently attends the University of Maryland. They are long time residents of Roslyn, New York.
