Divorce Law - Morristown, NJ

I start by telling my clients that they usually already know: That the divorce process will be a difficult time. But then I quickly add that there is always light at the end of the tunnel, but it’s going to take some time. It’s a process, and the courts can be slower than you’d like.

And I tell them that we can only control our side of it. Believe me, I’m a Type A kind of lawyer, and I want to control what I can. My clients benefit from that. But we have to understand that, given the role/schedule of the courts or alternative dispute resolution figures (mediators, arbitrators), and the opposing parties, we have to think and communicate creatively, and consider all options for pursuing an agreement or adjudication at trial. All the while keeping focused on the objective: a constructive and durable resolution for everyone involved.

All courts and judges care about the best interests of children. They want to move the process along. We see all kinds of cases: Divorcing couples with children, divorcing couples who own their own businesses, and even unmarried couples with children who are splitting up. Add the pandemic to the mix and you can’t help but notice an impact on each category. To say there’s an enormous range of new issues in family law these days, well, I think that would be understating it.

I’ve worked at small practices, and I think the resources at Fox Rothschild really make a difference for my clients. The support staff is talented, and extensive.  It means we dedicate more of our time to our clients. At the same time, we have nine lawyers in our Family Law department here in Morristown and Princeton alone (our NJ group), and there is a lot of camaraderie - I like to think of ours as a small firm within a large firm.

The pandemic has been a big challenge for everyone, and it’s of course changed the way we practice and approach our work. For starters, the courts figured out how to do everything virtual.

I find that more is getting done in a day, thanks in large part to the virtual practice, Some clients actually like it better - it makes the process more efficient.  And I find that the same is true for some judges. Like anything else, opinions differ across the board.

I grew up in a house of very strong women. My grandmother was a nurse, very independent, and my mother, a teacher, who then raised us to focus on education so that we always had the ability to support ourselves if need be.  I know how I got here.

Our practice is based in Morristown, but our cases span the state, from Bergen County to Camden County, everywhere in between.  Ours is a diverse practice, with the resources to assume the most complex cases, even those with the most arcane and challenging issues. There’s very little our group has not seen - or litigated, for that matter.

I know I’ve been very fortunate - I’ve worked with some of the best and most experienced lawyers in the state, and I am still relatively early in my career. I care about every case, and every client, that I take on. I think - and hope - my clients recognize and appreciate that, too.
